A year ago, my wife and I took a short trip to Nashville to see Nickel Creek perform at
the historic Ryman Auditorium. Chris Thile, the mandolinist for the group along with
Punch Brothers and numerous other projects, has been my favorite musician for many years.
Any project that he has been a part of, I have devoured and I always look forward to his
work. The morning after the show, we went to Barista Parlor for coffee. While we were there,
none other but Thile walked in with his lovely wife. Ashton and I both knew I had to try
to take his portrait. I was able to walk over, awkwardly thank him for his music, and asked
him if I could grab a quick headshot, to which he kindly obliged. I knew I only had 2 seconds
to get the image, so I dialed in, and fired off two quick frames. This is one of them. I was
so thankful for the opportunity to shake the man’s hand, thank him, and grab a quick portrait
of my favorite musician.
